It doesn't matter how much you study and prepare for a project, there is always someone more knowledgable. The amount of things that I am able to learn from the viewers and commenters on this channel is just amazing. I have complete faith that this build will turn out spectacular, but it is going to be even better than planned because of the expertise from the viewers, and I am so thankful for that.
I planned so much for my wood stove install, and it is working beautifully, but I am sure some improvements will have to be made to call it complete. Never the less, I hope this video will be a great resource for anyone hoping to tackle their first wood stove install. This can be a very intimidating task, but with the right research, I have complete confidence it can be done by nearly anyone. And what a rewarding feeling it is getting to sit back and enjoy the first few burns. Having no insulation yet, the house doesn't get very warm, but I feel warmer just watching that little fire burn.
One of the largest concerns I have seen so far from the viewers, is of course that of the river bank, and the proximity of the home to it. I completely understand this concern, and I have spent my fair share of time pondering over it as well. Before purchasing, I did take a close look at the river bank, and I got some opinions from locals in the area, and the risk felt low enough to continue forward. After releasing the first episode and hearing the concerns of others, it was obvious I needed a professional opinion. The folks at Octo Engineering in town were kind enough to sit down with me and go over the property and the material beneath. This visit was a huge stress reliever, as it revealed almost nothing but good news. The house is situated well above the high water line, and is on a bedrock bluff, with a bit of soil on top. This is the perfect case scenario, because we have a good solid foundation protecting us, as well, we have good fertile soil to grow with.
With all of this good news, we can continue forward without concern, but there are areas close by that have not shared that same good news. The Chilcotin River experienced a terrible landslide this past summer that was large enough to completely dam off the river for nearly a week. This news hit on an international level, and being so close to home, we had to go and check it out. To access the slide, you have to cross private property, so please do not attempt this yourself.
