Koh Ker was a major temple group and the capital of the Khmer empire from 928 to 944 CE. The ruins of the abandoned Koh Ker are located in the jungle in Northern Cambodia, 120 kilometers away from another famous Khmer temple complex - Angkor. The Koh Ker Ruins feature several Hindu temples, the most important one being a 7-tiered pyramid. The temple complex was added recently (2023) to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
